“I was with Coach Berry for the first two years of my college golf career. He was my official golf coach at the time, as I did not have one back home in Scotland. Whenever I had a problem, I would go to him and he would analyse my swing carefully and tell me what I needed to do to improve. All the tips and advice he gave me worked very well. He never made me leave a session with more than one thing to work on, so he kept it really simple and easy to understand. As a coach, he’s a really nice person and will always be honest with you. When we were in the gym, he knew what exercises helped the golf swing and what he would not recommend. This meant I was able to gain muscle and still perform to my best on the golf course. At the beginning of my college career my mental game was not the greatest, I used to be angry when I missed greens, putts or if I played well but scored poorly. James was always there to put me back in my place and work through each and every situation. I have moved universities now but I still keep in touch with James, and I still classify him as my coach.
